Who We Are:
The Lisa Colagrossi Foundation was established to create awareness and education for the signs, symptoms and risk factors for brain aneurysms while enhancing research and support initiatives that will help save lives. The organization encourages programs that promote early detection and innovative research from world-renowned neurologists in the quest to find more effective methods in the areas of prevention and treatment.
Lisa’s Legacy:
On March 18, 2015 Lisa came home after reporting the news all day, changed her clothes, completed her March Madness bracket, and posted all family brackets on the kitchen door in anticipation of the opening games the following day. Lisa then went to bed for the final time that evening at 6:30 p.m. (her usual bed time) to settle in and watch her beloved New York Rangers as she drifted off to sleep. Nobody in the family expected the turn of events that would follow.
On March, 19, Lisa left the house for work at 1:30 a.m (her usual departure time). She finished her morning shot while reporting on a fire around 7 a.m. She briefly called the house to tell her two boys, Davis and Evan, that she loved them and to make sure they had everything they needed for school. Shortly thereafter, Lisa collapsed in the News truck as she suffered a massive brain aneurysm. She was placed on life support to allow family members time to travel to NYC and say their final goodbyes. She expired shortly after 11 p.m. on March 20 at the age of 49.
Too often, the only sign of brain aneurysm is sudden death; however, Lisa did experience one of the classic signs. Lisa exercised regularly, didn’t drink, didn’t smoke, never used drugs, and was a vivacious, wife and mother who was full of life. She was a HUGE hockey mom, love the New York Rangers, raised chickens, grew a home garden, and even tried her hand at making home-made maple syrup. Her husband, sons, family members and friends were left behind in a state of shock and disbelief. How could this have happened to someone so young, vital and seemingly healthy?
Driven to do something to honor not only Lisa’s memory, but also all those who have fallen victim or survived a brain aneurysm and to prevent other families from experiencing the pain and heartbreak that Lisa’s family has, The Lisa Colagrossi Foundation was established.
